Rushed from work to Cambridge and saw Egusi Soup. I was dreading it as I'd only seen the initial read through on Monday and I didn't hear the bedroom scene.
I actually liked it, which is a miracle for me as I am hyper critical. The actors did a great job. Again, it's funny, the audience never laughs at the jokes you think they'll laugh at. And the bits that I was dreading got the best responses!
It's not a play that'll win any awards and stuff and I'm not sure of the life of the play or where it'll be put on but Menagerie seem to really like it so I'll see what they can do with it.
Saw Everything Must Go at Soho the other day. I think the writers didn't have much notice to write their shorts. It was okay. Dipo Agboulage's play was great as were some of the songs and the magician-type lady. I went based on reading a review and was kind of expecting more. But it was worth it to see Jimmy Akinbola - ahem - acting.

yay good for you Janice! really great that you liked it. it's so painful when you don't. x
well done Jan - imagine actors on stage speaking your dialogue, fantastic. I wish I could have seen it.
Well done! It sounds like your play was v good, because you found it worked even though the inner critic was pounding at the door. It must have been a great feeling.
Janice - we didn't get to meet, unfortunately. I played Anthony in 'At Sea', which you were kind about in your post! Anyway, I was a little alarmed by your somewhat bashful assessment of Egusi. It's beautifully written. You created a an absorbing world, and it was a festival highlight for the ensemble members who saw it (which was all of them). The cast and director did a great job in very short time but there'd be so much more to explore. You've already got the makings of a wonderful play in what you've written, so don't be too down on yourself!
Thanks all! yeah, I do like my play. Did I sound down about it? But I know I am very critical with my stuff. Thanks Neil for your lovely review... It was so nice... I am just gonna take the compliment.
